My True Colors I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. I am a Licensed Hair Braider, Certified Sisterlocks ™️ Consultant (2004), and a Natural Hair Care Professional. Look Your Best I have been a naturalista for almost two decades. The natural hair movement inspired me to make a big decision and cut off all of my relaxer and rock my TWA (teeny weeny afo). When I became free of chemicals in my hair, it was like I was a newborn baby. However, I didn't know how to care for my natural hair. Since social media was not as advanced at the time, I couldn't find pictures of natural hairstyles online, so I had to go to the library to do research. It was tough during that time since there were not a lot of books about our hair. One that I still have is No Lye by hair pioneer Tulani Kinard. The only natural hair salon that I knew of at the time in Chicago was by another hair pioneer, Amazon, who is the owner of Amazon's salon, now Amazon Natural Look Academy. They were my first hair salon experience! I got my first set of comb coils and lived with them for a while, then started another loc Journey with two strand twist. I had them for almost two years. Then one day I saw someone at my job with Sisterlocks™️ and it was like love at first sight. Sisterlocks™️ is a trademark company founded in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell. I have been a Certified Sisterlocks™️ Consultant and wearer for 16 years. I started both of my daughters with Sisterlocks™️. In closing, I have had my up and downs with my natural hair but all in all it was the best decision I had ever made. Growing Relationships My goals are simple. Establishing a positive experience and great consultant/client relationship. Nurturing a healthier scalp for healthier locs! Educating clients on developing healthy hair care habits. Where We Are Located Chickie Curls Studio is located on Chicago's Southside in Hyde Park & the University of Chicago Community, and Conveniently located near multiple Chicaago Public Transit lines including Metra Rail.
